Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst (DAAD), or the German Academic Exchange Service, is one of the world's largest and most respected intermediary organizations in its field. Scores of students, teachers, researchers and scientists supported by the DAAD have been able to gain valuable experience abroad. However, there are also many other sides to the work of the DAAD.

The DAAD, a joint establishment of the German higher education institutions, is tasked with promoting international academic co-operations through the exchange of university members. The DAAD is sponsoring undergraduates, postgraduates and academics from abroad and from Germany in over 100 different programmes. The various promotion programmes apply to all countries and subjects; they go from language and summer courses and sponsorships for doctoral studies through to short term research and studying trips for university lecturers. Follow-up programmes ensure that personal contacts are kept with former scholarship holders and that scientific networks are kept alive.
