Ideas, Issues and Questions of Nation-Building in Pakistan - A Research Cooperation with Hanns-Seidel Foundation

Currently, PD Dr. Andrea Fleschenberg dos Ramos Pinéu organizes the research cooperation on Ideas, Issues and Questions of Nation-Building in Pakistan in cooperation with Hanns-Seidel-Foundation. In the academic year 2012/2013, the focus lay on the identity aspect of nation-building. In 2013/2014, the project has focused on the nexus of governance and nation-building. Currently, in its third and final year, the project focuses on the nexus of resources and nation-building.

The project aims to facilitate a number of research papers and MPhil/PhD theses as will as public debates in the format of lectures and workshop series on the topic.

Twice a month guest lectures on the current topic of „Resources and nation-building“ will be held at NIPS. Visit the program website for further information.

Peaceful Change and Violent Conflict - The Transformation of the Middle East and Western-Muslim Relations’

PD Dr. Andrea Fleschenberg dos Ramos Pinéu co-organises the international project ‘Peaceful Change and Violent Conflict - The Transformation of the Middle East and Western-Muslim Relations‘ with PD Dr. Jochen Hippler (Institute of Development and Peace / University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany). The project is funded under the DAAD scheme Hochschuldialog mit der islamischen Welt and brings together researchers of universities in Germany (University of Duisburg-Essen), Morocco (Mohammed V.-Souissi University, Rabat), Iran (University of Tehran) and Pakistan (Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad). Regularly, summer schools with students from Germany, Iran, Marocco and Pakistan are held.

The so-called ‘Arab Spring’ has not only transformed the political system and social fabric within societies in the Middle East, but also their relation to the rest of the world. This projects specifically examines the impact of the ‘Arabbelion‘ on Western-Muslim relations.

One of PD Dr. Andrea Fleschenberg dos Ramos Pinéu  ongoing research projects examines the possibility of ‘Decenteriing Perspectives on Western-Muslim Relations.‘ It is a collaborative project with Dr. Saadia Abid, Abdul Rehman and Sara Shafiq.

The project aims to not only strengthen academic cooperation among the participating countries, but also to contribute to intercultural dialogue and understanding. Visit the program website for further information.
