...understand how geodynamic processes, biogeochemical cycles and climate interact with the oceans, how the marine environment and its resources are explored, how the underlying processes are analyzed and how the impacts on the ocean environment can be minimized. We are one of the largest geoscience departments in Germany, tightly linked with numerous cooperating non-university research institutions in our neighborhood. Our particular strength is in marine science, with research and infrastructure in the field bundled at MARUM, the University of Bremen research faculty for marine environmental research and home of the German excellence initiative cluster ‘The Ocean Floor – Earth’s Uncharted Interface’. We host one of the three IODP core repositories on campus and boast excellent research facilities in all fields of geoscience.
